Golden Age, the latest album from Seattle singer-songwriter Chris Staples, has a surprisingly low number of views for how beautiful the album is. NPR Music wrote a great article about it a few months back with some overview about the artist.
Thylacine (Not the extinct Tasmanian tiger)
Russia’s Trans-Siberian Railway is a 10 day trip, crossing more than 5,772 miles, and a trip I hope to take some day soon. A few years ago French artist Thylacine created an album while taking the journey, like literally mixing on the train every day, and last year released an accompanying documentary. It’s a great work of visual art that incorporates the vast Russian countryside, people and culture that inspired the Transsiberian album and I think more people should know about it. Here’s the first video in the 12 part series and one of the videos from the album, enjoy! (P.S. Hit the CC button if you don't speak French)
Tycho - Epoch
Tycho has been one of my favorite artist for a long time now. Tycho is lead by composer and designer Scott Hansen, known as ISO50 for his photographic and design works, and accompanied by Zac Brown, Rory O'Connor, and Billy Kim. The band leverages minimalism to bring about incredible complexity that most would envy in the design world. Their latest release, Epoch, doesn't fall short of that with tracks like Horizon.
I'm glad to say though that the Tycho formula from previous albums has been cracked. As the album progresses, you hear how the band has really evolved with pieces bits of the older sounds flowing into the new high-attack drums and ethereal melodies. I know I'll be listening to this album for a while and I hope you enjoy it too.
Middle Kids
An album I'm looking forward to, Middle Kids, check out all their info on their Facebook Page
Dope Lemon
Just uploading some of what I've been listening to lately. The interestingly named Dope Lemon is a previously shelved project by Angus Stone and tracked with his friend Rohin Brown on guitar. The album has a nice reverberant acoustic sound, reminds me of when Kevin Drew teamed up with Broken Social Scene on Spirit If, but his profile on EMI describes it much more eloquently than I could, "a world where reality and fantasy, creativity and practicality flow together unobstructed, to form things tangible but that feel like a dream."
Looks like he's touring in Australia through October and November but hopefully we'll see some shows popping up elsewhere.
Insert lemon pun…enjoy…
